Bodegas Hidalgo was founded by  D. José Pantaleón Hidalgo in 1792 which makes it one of the oldest bodegas/wineries in Spain. It is still owned by the eighth generation of the Hidalgo family who have 225 years of experience in making top quality wines and brandies which have received  worldwide recognition. All the wines are produced with grapes coming from their own vineyards in the very well -known districts of Balbaina and Miraflores.

The Vineyards

250 acres of the highest quality vineyards owned by the Hidalgo family are used to produce their wines:

“El Cuadrado”, their biggest property, is located in the Balbaina District, only seven miles away from the Atlantic Ocean, which gives the vines those special characters that make the wines so unique. The soils in this vineyard are a compound of different Albarizas; some plots with more than 90% calcium carbonate.

El Cuadrado lies at the highest altitude in the whole sherry district: 354 feet above sea level, and greatly benefits from the sea breezes.

“Pastrana,” located at the Miraflores District of Sanlucar de Barrameda, is just two miles from the ocean. The 25-acre parcel has an average vine age of 50 years. The soil is one of the best albarizas in the region. Their special Manzanilla and Amontillado Pastrana are produced in one of the only single vineyards in the sherry area and are a favorite among sherry experts.
