The estate is located 10 miles east of the Silverado Trail high in eastern hills of the Napa Valley.

It consists of two historic properties, the 660-acre Priest Ranch, which dates to the mid-19th century and the Elder Valley, a 955-acre parcel.  The combined property forms a contiguous 1,615 acre estate that spans 1,600 feet in elevation - from 800 feet above sea level on its valley floor to 2,400 feet at the mountain top. Somerston's 215 acres of vineyards are divided into 90 individual 'blocks' where the soil type (alluvial fan, Pleasanton Loam, Berryessa Loam and fractured shale), slope and exposure are maximized at each site.  The estate's cool nights, late morning fog, and warm days ensure that Somerston's grapes ripen slowly and evenly, developing intensely concentrated flavors balanced by smooth yet firm tannins and balanced acidity.

The estate wines are carefully selected from the best individual hillside blocks for our three distinctive wines: Cabernet Sauvignon, Stornoway (Merlot/Cabernet Franc), and Sauvignon Blanc.

Somerston's emphasis on sustainability is reflected throughout the estate, with a diversified ecosystem, woodlands, artesian springs, row crops, and grass-fed Dorper sheep.

“The great wines of the world all have a sense of place. It is the winemaker’s role to capture the estate’s potential in every bottle, without a heavy hand. An estate wine should be even more expressive and consistent each year.  From vintage to vintage our expectations grow.”— Winemaker Craig Becker
